Ming Nomchong.

The gallery is pleased to present the work of Ming Nomchong (b. 1981, Sydney), an Australian photographer and visual artist based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. A graduate of the College of Fine Arts NSW (BFA, 2003), Nomchong’s practice moves fluidly across image-making, collage, and printmaking, reflecting a richly layered and evolving visual language.

We have recently received a new body of twelve original works, further exemplifying the artist’s meticulous process and sensitivity to material (see below).

Nomchong’s work explores the nuanced relationship between the human form and the natural world, with a particular focus on oceanic environments. Through fragmentation and reassembly, she constructs evocative compositions that intertwine body, place, and texture. These works invite a contemplative engagement with ideas of connection, memory, and spatial awareness—suggesting dreamlike, liminal worlds that feel at once distant and intimately familiar. In drawing attention to the overlooked and ever-present, her practice expands the viewer’s perception of the environments we inhabit.
