Catalogue; ‘Reflections’ by Kane Lehanneur

ARTIST STATEMENT

Connection is everything. It pulses through every moment of existence. People, places, ecologies, astrologies, and unseen energies are woven into a vast and shifting web. Within this web, each fleeting choice ripples outward, touching threads far beyond immediate reach. Connection can arrive with ease— serendipitous, effortless, as though preordained. Or it can unravel into complexity—tumultuous, disquieting, even terrifying.

In this body of work, Lehanneur continues a journey through the many faces of connection. His visual language charts a path between simplicity and intricacy, intimacy and expanse. The Flower Bed works embody this tension—flowers as universal symbols of condolence and celebration, as vessels of cultural ritual and spiritual offering. Here, blossoms become emissaries of community, holding both joy and grief in their fragile forms.

Beyond the human gaze, Lehanneur finds inspiration in the natural networks of plants, where ecologies model interdependence. Plants entwine, support, and sustain one another, revealing symbiotic systems from which humans might learn: a collective thriving bound together by reciprocity. These reflections extend into the metaphysical, where the artist gestures toward forces beyond consciousness, energies that move through yet resist containment.

Now pausing, Lehanneur reflects on the shifting layers of connection encountered daily. New relationships bloom while others fade; the seasons turn, though their rhythms falter under the strain of imbalance; political tempests weigh heavily, casting shadows across the mind. Through it all, the work insists that connection—fragile, formidable, eternal—remains the thread that binds us to one another, to the earth, and to the unseen.

“I walk along an unfamiliar street, surrounded by faces I have never seen. In this place I appear different. A man — no teeth. smiles. takes my hand to his forehead — a gesture of respect, an offering of connection. We laugh together as we sit, with little to share beyond a smile and the quiet patience of good energy.

I long for simple connections...”

Kane Lehanneur.

Kane Lehanneur is an emerging, multidisciplinary artist who works across painting, printmaking, photography and moving image. Utilising these mediums, Lehanneur engages with the complex and multidimensional spaces that connect physical and meta-physical worlds. The artist’s practice reflects this through a deep exploration of both the self and the realms of the afterlife. Based upon un-ceded Gayemegal land in Sydney’s north, Kane’s background in design, photography and videography is revealed through a strong discernment of colour, composition, balance, and texture studies.

Show Notes

In “Organised Chaos,” we delve into the intricate rhythms and hidden

harmonies of nature. What may seems chaotic on the surface is, in

fact, a delicate orchestration—a dance of flora and fauna, each con-

tributing to the grand mosaic of the ecosystem. From the microscopic to

the cosmic, Organised Chaos reveals the principles of order and flow

permeate all scales of existence.

Through these artworks, we invite you to explore the symbiotic rela-

tionships that underpin life and challenge the notion of organisation as

merely a personal journey. Instead, consider how we, too, are part of

a larger, interconnected web where every element plays a role in the

beautiful, dynamic chaos of our world - reflect whether your own sense

of order aligns with the broader, collective rhythm of life.

2023 - With You / With Me

PREVIOUS SOLO EXHIBITION 2023

ARTIST STATEMENT

This recent body of work entangles the parallels of Kane’s practice together. ‘WITH ME’ is a multidisciplinary journey into the artists inner worlds. Through varied mediums, viewers travel inside Lehanneurs sacred connection with self and alternate time and space. Frequent spirits accompany his intimate voyage, presenting themselves through kinetic gestures and mystic forms. ‘WITH YOU’ is a robust development of the artist’s flower bed series. Lehanneur reflects on his earlier understandings of the flower as a symbol of condolence and celebration through a personal confrontation with loss and grief. Through this lived experience, the artist evolves a more complex understanding of how deeply these ideals are embedded in culture and community.
